This past Saturday marked the 27th annual Thanksgiving race in Manasquan, aptly named the ‘Turkey Trot’. Seeing continued growth, the ‘trot’ had approximately 2,3500 participants this year.
Congratulations to Kyle Price of Milltown, who won the race, completing the full course in 26 minutes, 23 seconds. The five mile race has become a tradition for not only local residents, but also to visitors from around the world. Stephanie Floberg, 55, won the prize for furthest distance to come to the race, since she traveled from Norway for the event.
Joseph Sapia, from the Asbury Park Press was at the event and had this to say about the festivities, “The excitement included the various runners wearing turkey hats of different styles. And at the corner of East Main Street and Third Avenue, Dave DeMonico, 42, of Ocean Township blew songs from his trumpet, encouraging the runners. The runners took off under sunny conditions with the temperature around 50 degrees when the race started at 11 a.m. Winds were about 5 to 10 MPH, with gusts of about 12 MPH.”
